How to Fix Windows Copilot Not Working on Windows 11
The Problem
Win + C does nothing, the Copilot icon is gone from the taskbar, or the panel loads a blank page / Copilot isn't available. Copilot depends on a signed-in Microsoft account, current Windows builds, and Microsoft's online service—offline PCs and some regions will never show the full experience.
Taskbar broken entirely? Fix taskbar not working. High RAM with widgets + Copilot? Fix high RAM usage.
Symptoms
- No Copilot button after a feature update.
- Spinning loader forever in the side panel.
- Works on one user account, not another.
The Fix: Step-by-Step
Step 1: Check Windows Version and Updates
Settings → Windows Update → install all pending updates. Copilot requires recent Windows 11 builds; Home and Pro both need to be current—not Windows 10.
Step 2: Enable Copilot in Settings
Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → turn Copilot (preview) On. If the toggle is missing, your edition or region may not offer it yet—skip to Step 6.
Step 3: Sign In With a Microsoft Account
Settings → Accounts → use a Microsoft account (not local-only) on the profile that needs Copilot. Work/school accounts may block consumer Copilot features.
Step 4: Reset Copilot / WebView Components
- Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Copilot (if listed) → Advanced options → Repair, then Reset.
- Update Microsoft Edge—Copilot embeds web content. Fix Edge not working if Edge itself is broken.
Step 5: Network, DNS, and Proxy
Copilot needs HTTPS to Microsoft endpoints.
- Fix DNS server not responding and disable VPN temporarily.
- Settings → Network & internet → Proxy → off unless IT requires it.
Step 6: Region and Enterprise Policy
Consumer Copilot availability varies by region and policy. On domain PCs, Group Policy may hide Copilot—contact IT. Home users: Settings → Time & language → Region should match your actual country.
Step 7: Create a New Local Test Profile
Settings → Accounts → Other users → add a test user with a Microsoft account. If Copilot works there, the original profile is corrupt—repair with Settings app won't open steps or migrate data.
Step 8: When Copilot Is Not Offered
Microsoft continues to rename and bundle AI features (Recall, Click to Do, etc.) by build. If Copilot is deprecated on your version, use the newest Settings → Personalization → Taskbar AI entries instead of hunting old toggles.
Performance Note
Copilot is optional. If the PC is slow, leave it off and use optimize Windows for gaming or speed up a slow PC on older hardware.
