How to Fix Bluetooth Not Working in Windows 11
The Problem
The Bluetooth tile vanished, pairing spins forever, or buds connect but stay silent. Desktops without a dongle and laptops that just woke from sleep see this constantly.
Paired but no sound through headphones? After Bluetooth connects, set them as output in Sound—or follow fix no audio in Windows 11 if every device is silent.
The Fix
Step 1: Toggle and Reboot
Settings → Bluetooth & devices → On. Flip Airplane mode on for ten seconds, off again. A full reboot clears a stuck radio after sleep.
Step 2: Restart Bluetooth Services
Win + R → services.msc → Bluetooth Support Service → Restart, startup type Automatic. Restart Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service if it is listed.
Step 3: Driver in Device Manager
Bluetooth section → update or uninstall the adapter → reboot. Missing entirely? View → Show hidden devices. Install Intel / Realtek / Qualcomm Bluetooth from the PC or motherboard vendor.
Step 4: Remove and Pair Again
Settings → Bluetooth & devices → device → Remove → put headphones in pairing mode (LED flashing) → Add device → Bluetooth.
Step 5: Desktop Dongles
Use a motherboard USB port, not a front panel or crowded hub. Generic Windows drivers sometimes fail—use the dongle maker's package if pairing is flaky.
Step 6: Stop Sleep From Killing Bluetooth (Laptops)
Device Manager → Bluetooth adapter → Properties → Power Management → uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
No Bluetooth in Device Manager?
Enable PTT / fTPM unrelated—look for Bluetooth disabled in BIOS or a dead module. A USB Bluetooth 5.x dongle is a cheap fix on desktops.
