Network & Internet guides

Get back online and stay there: dropped Wi-Fi, DNS errors, slow speeds, high ping, hotspots, and sharing between PCs.

Where to begin

Start by working out how far the problem reaches. If every device on the network is offline, restart the router and check for an outage with your provider. If only this PC is affected, the cause is on the PC: the adapter, its driver, or the network settings.

Wi-Fi that shows as connected while pages refuse to load often points to DNS. A connection that drops every few minutes usually points to the adapter driver or its power-saving settings.

For slow speeds and high ping, test over Ethernet if you can. A wired result shows whether the weak point is the Wi-Fi link or the line coming into the building.
