Where to begin
Write down exactly what you see first. A stop code, an error number, or the name of the app that failed narrows the search far more than a general repair does.
Then ask what changed. If the trouble began after a Windows update, a new driver, or new hardware, undoing that change is usually the fastest fix.
If Windows will not start, begin with the boot guides, because Startup Repair and System Restore both run from the recovery environment. If blue screens keep showing different stop codes, test the RAM and review recent drivers before you think about reinstalling.
